Sweden has been called “the most cashless society on the planet” - digital payment solutions are booming and the possibilities to obtain and use cash as means of payment are declining. At the same time 7 out of 10 consumers wants to be able to pay by cash in the future.
The Swedish Consumers’ Associations report on the accessibility, security and integrity aspects of the emerging digital payment services. The report includes a mapping of eighteen digital payment services, revealing that they are not as easy to use for all consumers as should be, and have shortcomings regarding security and integrity.
It is also clear that the fast development towards a cash free society will affect many vulnerable consumers. The Swedish Consumers’ Association proposes a series of political solutions in this report to deal with these growing problems, e.g. concerning design and bank regulations. Our work aims to make sure that Sweden does not stand without non-commercial paying methods in the future and that digital payment services are designed to be secure, accessible and easy to use for all.
